The retreat will be held at The Garrison Institute, a historic and beautiful facility on the Hudson River in Garrison, NY, from March 3-5, 2013, beginning at noon on Sunday and ending at 4pm on Tuesday. We will be providing transportation on Sunday morning from Grand Central Station in NYC, and will be returning to NYC at 5pm on Tuesday. During your stay, we will be serving vegetarian meals with the option of kosher meals.
The retreat will include professional development workshops, Jewish learning, and the opportunity to share and discuss your own work. The professional development workshops will be both peer-led and master classes led by art professionals, based on the curriculum developed and tested through the Six Points Fellowship, in collaboration with key arts organizations, such as the New York Foundation for the Arts.
Workshops may include “Marketing and Outreach,” “Public Speaking,” “Personal and Professional Financial Management for Artists,” and “Legal Issues and Contracts.” Potential Jewish Learning areas include “Jewish Identity through Art History,” “Social Change, Jewish Values, and the Role of the Artist,” and “Integrating and Interpreting Jewish Texts in Contemporary Art.” The retreat will also include professional presentations of the artists’ creative work, with the opportunity for feedback from the other artists and invited arts professionals.
This retreat and learning will be subsidized, but each participant will be required to pay a $100 participant fee. You are responsible for your own travel to NYC, but there are a variety of travel subsidies available. There are also participant fee subsidies available for Russian-speaking Jews.
