LA Fellows’ Trailers Now Online

Jessie Kahnweiler’s “Dude Where’s my Chutzpah?”, a comedic web series following Jessie on her adventure to discover what it means to be Jewish, now has a trailer available online! Check it out, and find more details,here.
Paul Ratner’s Moses on the Mesa also has a trailer available online. The film is inspired by the real life of Solomon Bibo, a Jewish-German immigrant who became the governor of a Native American tribe in the Wild West. Check out the trailer here!

For two nights only, this one-woman show will trace a year of obsession with Bernie Madoff to investigate the intersection of mysticism and finance, the inevitability of cycles, and the true meaning of wealth. Performed with violin and voice through a range of looping pedals and processors, and backed up by a live band, this is one show you won’t want to miss!

Judith Berkson’s The Vienna Rite

Early this November, Judith Berkson’s Six Points project The Vienna Rite will premier at Roulette in Brooklyn! The Vienna Rite is a chamber opera about Viennese cantor Salomon Sulzer, whose life spanned most of the 19th century to include a friendship with Franz Schubert, an arrest during the revolution of 1848, being knighted by the emperor, and spreading a liturgical style influenced by the music of his city. The opera will explore these events drawing on influences from Viennese opera, contemporary music and devotional singing of cantors, and will feature a vocal ensemble, percussion, harmoniums and organ. Hannah Bos’ Six Points Project, Blood Play, will premier this fall at The Bushwick Starr! Created by The Debate Society, Blood Play translates the anti-Semitic medieval perception that Jewish men menstruated into a provocative, 20th century thriller.
Soon, the story spread…Whispers in the basement bars of the homes around the neighborhood. Rumors served at the soda shop. Kids, terrified, telling trembling tales in tents in the backyard. …He’s out there.

Hadassa Goldvicht’s “The Lullaby Project” is on display at the Israel Museum, as a part of their “Good Night” exhibition! “Good Night” aims to peeks into the bedroom, exploring the different stages of sleep and the imagery associated with it, while also looking outdoors, illustrating the changes taking place at night in nature.
The exhibition opens March 30, 2012, and runs through January 31, 2013. More details can be found here.

The Museum at Eldridge Street will present original drawings from Liana’s Six Points project, A Bintel Brief, her debut graphic novel based on The Forward’s beloved advice column. Liana’s single-page vignettes bring to life the heartbreaking and humorous dilemmas of young immigrants seeking advice on everything from matters of the heart to new world manners.
Opening night is Wednesday, March 21st, at 7:00pm, and will run through May 31st!

Oded Hirsch Solo in New York!

Fellow Oded Hirsch makes his New York solo exhibition debut at the Thierry-Goldberg Gallery! Oded works primarily in video and photography, and creates surreal mechanisms that consist of an independent set of rules and logic. His exhibition, ‘Nothing New,’ will feature large-scale photographs and many recent video works. The titular piece, ‘Nothing New,’ is an epic video made with the help of hundreds of kibbutz members, exploring biblical narratives while reconstructing the pioneering spirit of the Zionist movement.
Opening night is Sunday, March 4th 6-8pm, and the show will run through April 15th.

Avishai Mekonen’s film premiere

Avishai Mekonen’s new film 400 Miles to Freedom is premiering at the New York Jewish Film Festival. The film tells the story of Avishai’s journey from Ethiopia to Israel in 1984, and the kidnapping he endured as a child in Sudan during his community’s exodus. Screenings are January 11th at 3:45pm and January 18th at 6pm at the Walter Reade Theater; tickets available online.
