Notes from the Tribe at UCLA

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

Will Deutsch’s Six Points project, Notes from the Tribe, will be featured at the Hillel at UCLA. The gallery will be featuring a work-in-progress presentation from Notes from the Tribe, a series of illustrations depicting various Jewish traditions and experiences, as well as characters from the Torah. Inspired by the golden age of cartooning, and using patterns found in classic Judaica, Will’s goal is to create a temporary Jewish body of work whose perspective is uniquely American.

Check it out March 14th – April 10th, and find more details here!

USDA Seder to Feature Art by Will Deutsch

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

The United States Department of Agriculture, in a recent tradition, will hold a Passover Seder, which will spotlight issues related to hunger and justice in America. On behalf of the Progressive Jewish Alliance and Jewish Funds for Justice, fellow Will Deutsch has created a piece entitled ‘Let My People Go’ (pictured) as a gift to this Seder. Drawing on the Passover story of Exodus the work depicts Moses and his brother Aaron as they plead for freedom from Pharaoh. While the Jewish people no longer serve as slaves in Egypt, this image serves as a reminder to remain ever vigilant in the continual pursuit for social and economic justice for all peoples.

Seder with Fellows in LA!

Monday, March 26th, 2012

Join Fellows Will Deutsch and Jonas N. T. Becker for Seder: a meal-based initiative committed to creating a path for rethinking how contemporary Jewish art and culture is financed and experienced communally. In exchange for a modest cash donation ($18), guests enjoy a vegetarian locally sourced dinner and receive a ballot. During the dinner, artists who have submitted project proposals will make brief presentations. At the end of the dinner, all guests vote on the project they like the best. The artist whose proposal receives the most votes gets the donation money collected at the door.

Seder is a part of Nu ART Projects, a LA based Jewish art collective, dedicated to increasing Jewish cultural appreciation through well-crafted participatory experiences.

Thursday, March 29 from 7-9pm
